Building an online business was just a hobby at first. I pieced together some political websites in my spare time. I thought it would be a fun way to do my writing projects that I had been assigned in school. I’d post them on the site, and tell people about it. That was my entire purpose at the time.
Then I discovered a program called AdSense, the advertising program by Google. I put some ads on the website and saw some clicks. I made about a buck the first day. I thought that was fairly cool, but nothing to write home about, no pun intended. Then the earnings kept increasing, and increasing. I finally decided to make this hobby into a full-time business.
To make a long story short, it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Here are the general reasons deciding to make money online from the comfort of my recliner was one of the best I’ve made:
Flexible Life
Making money online isn’t tied to specific hours. Taking a three hour lunch break can happen. The emphasis of the day is still on the business, but not on the actual hours spent on it.
Efficiency sky-rockets when your business has two main daily activities (link building and writing great content ), and the income is risidual, meaning a little work literally pays for years.
More. Time.
By far, the most important aspect of building an online business is the incredible lack of time that’s increased. Working a 9-5 building and marketing a website simply doesn’t happen.
So what to do with the time? Depends on the person. Many travel, others “bum” around the town, others take up causes and others build more website businesses . I actually started working with the family business in order to learn the ropes and learn hands-on business. The possibilities are limitless.
No Income Ceiling
This is the most important part, at least to me. Getting paid by the hour restricts you. Even if you get paid $100, that means you’ll never make more than $1k per day. Internet marketing means you have found and built a system that you can build over and over again. Once your first site is built, as long as it’s based on residual income, you’re, well, mostly done. At that point you can start another website…
…then another, then another, then another. You’ve got a system you can keep on building, doubling your income. I own an entire network of websites, and work no more now than when I started.
It similar to having a passive income in the form of interest, such as from a savings account, CD or money market account. It’s important to learn as much as you can about internet marketing in the same way it’s important to learn the best money market rates .
Just Make the First Step
Residual income + duplicating the model = making money. It’s that simple, flexible and it makes sense. It doesn’t require special skills, special knowledge, or anything along those lines.
Anyone, and I mean anyone, can build a website. The Internet is the great equalizer where everyone is put on the same footing. Write great content and make friends. That’s all it takes to make money online.
