The first year of my online journey was spent constantly reading dozens of “make money online” blogs. It felt good to read them. I felt like part of various communities, which was obviously a plus. I felt productive because I was “learning” new things. I was proud of the time I spent “researching”, as I thought of it.
During that first year, I read thousands upon thousands of tips, tricks, tactics, ideas, rants, reviews and other tidbits of information. I spent literally two hours per night after school and work, ruining my eye-sight reading other successful blogs. It certainly made sense. “Learn from the best”, I thought as another month ticked by without earnings. Yet in all that time, I never learned the secret to success that I was looking for.
This was the biggest reason I didn’t make money . Unfortunately, my first year isn’t unlike most first years for internet marketers, and it’s not unlike some second and third years.
The secret of success is simple, but it doesn’t feel good. If you aren’t making money and you’ve been reading blogs and websites about making money online for at least several months, there is a way you can reverse your tracks. Supposing you’ve picked a relatively open niche that isn’t dominate by mega-sites with tens of thousands of high-quality links, the following should guarantee your success in most niches:
- Stop Reading Blogs. Most internet marketing blogs are about ways to maximize your online income by finding small flaws. If you aren’t already generating an income, it’s best to focus on doing that first. Otherwise, you’re wasting hours every day which could have already been spent on creating your website.
- Write Killer Content. No matter what, write something every night. If you have to give up TV, it’s worth it in the long run. If you write dozens of short “medium” quality posts, combine them to publish only comprehensive “authority” articles, which are natural link bait. Read more about great content here .
- Build Links Feverishly. The best income is a passive income, and that’s what you get with search engine traffic you get. The only way to dominate your niche is building traffic. Build 10 links a day, hire a theme to be designed for $200, hire someone from India to contact every website in your niche with some sort of linking agreement — be creative. Your ranking won’t come if you don’t build links. Learn more about link building here .
- Be Uncannily Focused. Find out how long you can keep your concentration. Set your clock to spend 3 times that either writing killer content or building links feverishly. Don’t do anything else during that time. No planning, no reading; just build links and write.
You’ll discover that doing this for a month will have a huge impact to your website. Two months will be double that. A full year will find you dominating most niches, and will change your life. Be focused. Build links. Write some killer content.
That’s the secret.
If you have tried this before but still want a helping hand, I don’t blame you. It wasn’t after dozens of failed attempts that I finally started doing what I planned on doing, cut back on the reading, and became extremely focused. You have two options: keep trying, or learn more about why some websites fail.
