I’ve always found the “make money fast” schemes to be fascinating. I used to click the AdSense ads that advertised that anyone can “get rich quick” and make millions within a few weeks, working “Less that 1 Hr Per Day!” The “get rich quick” sales pitches were incredible — outrageous claims, harebrained schemes and obvious fabrications. I obviously never bought into any of the programs, knowing full and well that they were financial black holes.
The truth is, statistically speaking, you’re more likely to be hit by lightening on a Tuesday than to break your bank account with a new “windfall” of profit because you paid 15 bucks to some guy you meet online.
Hold On. Some People Do Get Rich Quick
Don’t get me wrong — it’s very possible to build wealth. There are two options for becoming rich: make more money than you spend or save more money than you spend. That’s it. Those are the two options. Save more or make more.
Most personal finance websites and resources emphasize saving, and they most certainly should. Saving and investing your money is the most effective system of wealth creation for the long term. Put two or three thousand away every year, and you’ll be set for retirement when the time comes, at least if you start young.
How to Make Money
Saving money is a great way to establish a retirement. However, very few of the rich got where they are because they skipped lattes and put their money away. That’s a great retirement strategy, but it fails as a strategy for everyday life.
