Your website is perfect. It has the greatest content ever. You can’t even look at your website without your face splitting into a huge smile. It’s amazing. And it’s lonely.
Unless people go to your website, there’s really to point to it. Websites are all about getting traffic. So how do we increase traffic? There are four basic sources of traffic.
1. Search Engine Traffic
The number one source of traffic for this website is search engine traffic. To get search engine traffic you have to have your website rank well for certain keywords on search engines.
The key to ranking well on search engines is to have plenty of quality links pointing to your website. If you can get more quality links to your website than your competitors, you are almost guaranteed search engine traffic.
Search engine traffic is the best source of traffic, in my opinion, because new visitors are more likely to:
a. Click on advertisements, making you money.
b. Buy something, making you money.
But the other sources of traffic are fantastic too, especially return traffic.
2. Return Traffic
Is what happens when someone like your content so much, they come back for more. These are people who like you, and are thus more likely to trust you when you suggest that they do something, like buy a program.
To get return traffic, just do this: be amazing. All of your pages should be fantastic, and end with a call to action of some sort. This plays off of the emotion of your visitors, meaning they’ll be more likely to subscribe to your content, or save the link to your website.
Never underestimate the value of return traffic.
3. Link Traffic
Link traffic is often important, especially for a new website. It’s when another webmaster places a link to you on their website, and their traffic clicks the link and ends up at your website. This is one of the advantages of link building and shouldn’t be overlooked. However, the bigger importance of the link building lies in search engine traffic that comes later on.
4. Social Network Traffic
There are dozens of websites that rank other websites, allowing users of these sites to share links and talk about their favorite pages and articles found online. I’ve generated more than half of my traffic through social networking. It’s really incredible how many people can come to your website through social networking.
To increase your social networking traffic, just make it noteworthy. If it’s worth sharing, they’ll share, and you’ll get traffic. Have amazing content, get amazing traffic. It’s literally that simple.
5. Advertisement Traffic
If you’ve calculated how many visitors you need before you can make money, it might be worth your time to consider actually buying your traffic through advertisements.
You can literally buy targeted traffic through AdSense, a program put out by Google. It displays ads on pages and websites relevant to your own website. You pay every time someone clicks your advertisement. It can cost anywhere from $.05 to $10.00. If you know that you can generate about a $1.00 per visitor…you know how much to be willing to pay. There can be huge money if you do the right math.
